“The Eagle of the Empire” by Cyrus Townsend Brady

Synopsis

A story of Waterloo and of the man Napoleon, suffering, eary, rousing to victory as to wine, and stirring a young soldier to youth’s glory of hero worship. A clear heroic note, and a love story with all the charm of “the American Dumas.”

My Review
⭐⭐ & ❤︎❤︎

2 stars. At first I loved this book very much. Marteau was amazing. There was a very plainly stated situation about a woman in danger of being assaulted, but since she was just fine it didn’t bother me too much. Until Marteau accidentally makes it into her bedroom at night and due to a spoiler that I can’t disclose, pretends, when they are found soon after, that he had come to her room on purpose (you get the idea). That started making me a little “ehhh” even if neither of them had done anything wrong at all, but then when they meet later on and start kissing—it’s somewhat described—and she’s already engaged to a man… There was also swearing in French, and a suicide. The historical part was very very well done, and there were amazing characters, but I don’t intend to read this book again. But I do intend to read this author again, since I really enjoyed his style.
